Duckie by NevaSirenda Duckie by NevaSirenda
Just a quick little pattern for April. The original was done for the 2009 Pattern-A-Day calendar; I made some changes to it to give it a bit more depth and make it more compact.

My original pattern, copyright me and AMUniversal 2009. For personal use only, not for duplication, download, transmission or sale.

I understand your little fellow is a duckling wearing wellies and walking in rain, but still, it reminds me so much of an old Estonian nursery rhyme. Translates loosely like that:

Snow came down and white became the land,
two little goslings can't go out now.
They sit in the barn with nothing to do,
because it's too cold to walk barefoot on snow.

A cobbler goes by, feels sorry for them,
he quickly measures their feet.
He sews them boots and delivers them soon,
now it's good to walk on snow, wearing boots.

Thank you for sending! My roots are in Eastern Europe so I am always interested in that culture.

Not exactly sure! I THINK my grandmother came from somewhere around Kiev. My grandfather's town has been hard to pinpoint, there are about a dozen towns with that name ranging from Poland to down near the Black Sea, we are still trying to figure out which one he came from. I just know they were of Eastern European extraction and recently we were told that they may have originally been of Rusyn descent.

Karpathia is a very interesting neighbourhood. It's a place where so many different cultures and languages meet - Slavic, Germanic, Hungarian, Romanian, with all their minor subspecies. Plus, the mountains are breathtakingly beautiful. A very nice place to take ancestry from. :-)

Absolutely adorable! This would be a great pattern to put on a baby bib. I have made many bibs over the decades and this would be especially good for one!

Or a baby towel. I have one of those hood towels that I'm looking at stitching for a cousin's new baby and I'm torn between this and a cute fish design I did for a later calendar.

Oh, yes, a towel! A fish design would be adorable, too. I love making baby things!
